I am Thayra!

I was born and raised on the west coast of Africa, Guinea-Bissau. And I moved permanently to Europe in 2013.

I studied Design in Lisbon and specialised in Industrial Design.

My professional career started while I was still studying. I joined creative teams and worked on projects in Design studios in Portugal.

I moved to the creative city of Berlin in 2021, where I lived for two years. During that period, I worked between Berlin, Brussels and Amsterdam, developing products and providing consulting services, especially to startups on materials for new products.

My origins, cultures I admire, and cities I have lived or visited and found inspiring through their architecture, colours, and people are reflected, and they influence my work.

Materials are my passion. In my understanding, more than bringing functionality to a piece, choosing suitable material gives the piece personality and soul, revealing a unique identity.

All my work is focused on longevity and timelessness. I create thinking in materials and design that allow my work to cross the time by being easy to maintain and preserve. The best example can be seen in my first commercial collection, DJUNTU, launched in June 2024 at 3Days of Design in Copenhagen.

The company is based in Lisbon, so all the production is done in local workshops. This decision is based on the intention to keep the brand human and sustainable.
